Hello!

The double-wide asterisk key is wide on both sides.

Here's a picture of my ProCAT Flash:

http://www.cheapandsleazy.net/images/ebay_images/flash_mein.jpg

It's a bit tough to see with those keypads on there, but the asterisk key does stick out on both sides!

DuckFiasco,

Thank you for your original and updated posts. I am trying to teach myself Phoenix Theory (because those were the books that came with my machine). I have one StenEd book, and it was interesting to see where some of the differences are; however, I would think it's just a matter of getting used to whatever you learn. (Of course, I'm just on Lesson 8, so what do I know, right?)

Your posts, however, are insightful and very helpful.

Thank you, gdw. I do have a double-wide asterisk (at least it's wider on the RIGHT side of the key). I've been trying to work with my right hand but I can see times when using my left pointer finger would be easier. For example, "4" is transcribed as /TPOUR while "four" is stroked /TPO*UR. Hitting both the -R and the asterisk is tough with one finger. I'm still working on it, though.

Hola!

Yes, that's right: Another three months, another update!

Alas, I got carried away and gathered lots of news and have lots of partially written articles, and I wanted to finish those articles and the news before updating Cheap and Sleazy, but it didn't quite happen that way ... so instead, I decided to provide all the stuff for the main page first, and finish off the articles later ....

One thing that isn't in the update is this little tidbit: I have FINALLY managed to gather all of the postings of Steve Shastay's blog into one Word document! Page count: 127.

I will be going through this document to ensure the formatting remains consistent from one entry to the next, then converting it to a .pdf, and uploading that along with a few of the articles I have that are complete ... and as for what (some of) those articles are, they're mentioned in the update!

Sorry about the delay, but look for one or two of the "missing" articles during the coming week.

Greetings, everybody!

My apologies for not writing anything in here since ... what, March?! I have been busy ... and sick! :o(

I am in the midst of a rather massive update of ol' Cheap and Sleazy ... but it isn't quite finished. There are articles that must be written, another that must be edited, pictures to edit, links to check, etc., etc., etc.!

I did, however, update my article, "Different Dictation" -- almost in time for Hallowe'en!

It's not much of an update ... but I think you'll get a kick out of the "Black-eyed Kids" addition.

Grab some coffee, a snack, and a flashlight (don't forget the spare batteries!) and prepare to be ... unnerved!

Oh, and it might be a good idea to make sure all of your doors and windows are locked!

Happy Hallowe'en!

Stenovations used to have a copy of the Digitex/Fonics dictionary (among others) on their Support page, but they removed them.

Fortunately, the Way Back Machine kept a copy.

Of course, they are in digitalCAT format, but I have digitalCAT and have already exported the dictionary to .rtf format.

Shoot me an e-mail. I'm at gdwarner (at) cheapandsleazy (dot) net. I'll upload it to my website and give you a link to download it from (it's 3 MB).

Hi, Allison.

Just checked the specs, and basically they're saying buy the current generation of Apple hardware, and use Boot Camp instead of the emulation programs I mentioned sometime back.

As for the MacBook Air, it recently was upgraded and has two USB ports (vice the one it had originally) ... and I know of one reporter that is using it with Boot Camp and just loves it ... and now that CC is keyless, that makes things much better!

What did you have before that was rendered incompatible?

Wow, I am shocked that I originally wrote this post in 2007...and I'm still contemplating a new MacBook :)

I apologize for not writing back all those years ago...and I return with another question...

I saw that you recommended the MacBook Pro...what about the MacBook Air? It is lighter and a whole lot cheaper! Now that I am a working reporter and have had to replace my computer every year, which is just getting crazy! I have checked the Stenograph hardware requirements, but I don't really understand their Mac guidelines, and somehow the last computer that I bought ended up being incompatible. I know that Macs work with Case and Boot Camp, but I don't see anything specific about MacBook Air. I just don't want to make another mistake...and I would love to have a computer for at least a few years.
Thanks so much!
